Primary duties and responsibilities include:

  • Provision and manage web properties in a cloud environment (Amazon web services)
  • Administer DNS zones
  • Develop and maintain scripts for monitoring, reporting, and automation
  • Work with development team to deploy code in Java environment
  • Solve difficult scaling issues and provide technical solution for any IT issues
  • Provide 24x7 support for production environment
  • Ability to work in different time zones if needed


  • BS/BA in Computer Science or equivalent
  • A minimum of 5 years Linux systems administration experience
  • Experience with 24/7 production web environment (99.99% SLA)
  • Candidate must have ability to complete tasks independently
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects efficiently and work well in team environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving expertise and attention to details

Required Skills:

  • Strong Linux and Unix background (including kernel configuration capabilities)
  • Experience with the following languages: bash, Perl, PHP, or Python, Java
  • Extensive experience with open source tools and applications such as Tomcat, CVS, Bugzilla, ANT, puppet, rpm, etc.
  • Production support of medium size web environment running the typical LAMP stack
  • Strong understanding of PCI Compliance and security best practices
  • Strong networking knowledge (tcp handshaking, routing, networking protocols, etc.)
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Nagios, Cacti
  • Knowledge of Load balancers
  • Knowlegde of Amazon Web Services, like Ec2, rds, s3, elb, etc.
  • Java/Tomcat environment -- building (ant) and deploying java code
