Associate Marketing DesignerHoughton Mifflin Harcourt CompanyTrade Division Reporting to the Director of Creative Services, the Associate Marketing Designer will design and help produce a variety of print and web-based promotional materials needed for the Trade Division’s children's, adult, culinary and general interest programs. This position requires someone with solid design and communication skills and the ability to work on several projects simultaneously.

Primary Accountabilities: Design a variety of promotional materials, including catalogs, blads, brochures, mailing pieces, material for web, ads, sell sheets, postcards, posters, bookmarks, POP displays, and publicity press kits, working with sales and marketing personnel, under time and budget requirements. Prepare files for press and check proofs.

Work on our e-catalog and e-galley systems to insure maximum use of these capabilities. Knowledge of HTML and XML coding, and content management systems specifically PSS, Documentum, Edelweiss and Net Galley would be extremely helpful.

Designer will also support the Director with administrative work necessary to ensure smooth running of the Creative Services Department. Assist in areas including: preparing requests for quotation, submitting jobs to vendors, gathering and supplying graphics files, scanning, circulating materials, etc.

Execution of design assignments in a creative and knowledgeable manner according to each department's needs.

Other duties as assigned

Required Skills Knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, PDF creation (Distiller), Quark, image scanning, Microsoft Word and Dreamweaver. Strong background in designing for both print and web formats. Experience with data bases, HTML and XML tagging, and use of e-cataloging systems a plus. Strong typography and formatting skills; knowledge of preparing files for press Strong communication and organizational skills

Education and ExperienceRequired: College or art/design school degree required. 1-2 years design experience.
