Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in Information, Computer Science, or in a field related to the job. Two (2) years related experience.

    Preferred Qualifications
    - 4+ years Cisco Networking experience
    - 4+ years Linux experience ( SUSE , Mandriva, Red Hat)
    experience with network firewalls
    - ability to communicate and coordinate across all levels of staff and technical expertise.

    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  • Provides technical architecture and recommendations related to LAN / WAN .
  • Analyzes and studies the technology market and vendor products to determine the strategy that best meet the business needs of the City.
  • Recommends policies and standards for LAN / WAN , operating systems and desktop software.
  • Supports City's Internet Operations including the firewalls and censoring software.
  • Studies and recommends network security procedures, policies and products.
  • Provides integration between the various City systems including mainframes, VAX 's, RS6000s and contracted systems.
  • Migrates data from one system to another.
  • Negotiates contracts on behalf of the City for LAN / WAN operations.
  • Reviews departments' technical requests, specifications and budgets in LAN / WAN areas.
  • Writes specifications.
  • Provides technical testing, evaluations and write formal recommendations.
  • Makes presentations to the City's technical departmental representatives and departmental business managers.

    • May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others
