This position is one with a high level of responsibility and accountability. The Palliative Care Administrative Assistant (PCAA) is responsible for fulfilling secretarial duties for the palliative care staff. This includes correspondence, special projects, preparation of material for presentations and meeting minutes. The PCAA must have good human relation skills, personal tact, integrity, good judgment and problem-solving skills. The PCAA shares in the responsibility for the smooth operation and efficient functioning of the palliative care team. This position requires a good working knowledge of the hospital and a thorough understanding of the needs of the palliative care team.

This individual also coordinates and maintains the database computer system, identifies, abstracts, inputs and maintains specific data and generates customized reports specific to palliative care patients. These reports are utilized for Palliative Care Quality Assurance at Miami Valley Hospital. The PCAA is responsible for the identification, abstraction, input, storage and the retrieval of data on a computer system specific to the palliative care population. The PCAA generates computer reports and sends them to various departments for palliative care quality assurance and research. The PCAA reports to the Palliative Care Program Manager. The individual has contact with various other departments that may utilize information gathered.

Qualifications

Education: Must be high school graduate – advanced education desirable.

Licensure: N/A

Certification: N/A

Experience: Three to five years of recent secretarial experience.

Skills/Other: Typing proficiency of 50 wpm is required. Computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel spreadsheet and PowerPoint applications is required. Familiarity with medical terminology preferred. Ability to use a Dictaphone is desired. Exceptional skills regarding customer relations, quality, accuracy, productivity, critical thinking and teamwork are required. The ability to manage multiple priorities/projects is required.
