An Underwriter II will be responsible for nurturing the daily relationship with the dealer clients while executing proper credit underwriting strategy for the region/district. Underwriters must have strong negotiation and relationship skills to communicate the decision, sell the decision, and capture the business. In addition, the Underwriter must build rapport and confidence with the dealer customer. The Underwriters demonstrates active listening skills, a strong sense of logic, ability to ask probing questions, and be able to think on their feet. The Underwriters must execute the risk/reward equation since these individuals have rate override authority when warranted. This involves critical thinking with regards to the credit worthiness of the individual as well as understanding the performance of the dealer. In addition the Underwriter is responsible to understand and execute credit, product and exception policies. Decisions include structuring the first decision, negotiated counter-offers, rehashed decisions and exceptions as appropriate to maximize profitable volume and overall relationship with the client. Recognized for outstanding consumer credit knowledge, policy expertise, analytical abilities and communication prowess.
Minimum of 3+ years of credit experience
Experience in heavy call volume environment
Working knowledge of PC navigation
Excellent communication/negotiating skills
Critical Thinking and attention to detail
Knowledge of fair lending procedures
Knowledge of financial products and procedures
Strong selling skills
Customer service orientation and ability to develop and maintain relationships
College degree in field related to finance
Auto Finance experience preferred
