Location Home based with broadband North East USA Ubuntu is the fastest growing Linux distribution with over 8 million users globally Our goal within the Corporate Services division is to take the Ubuntu server platform to business customers Canonical provides commercial support consulting and training services to customers and partners who are deploying Ubuntu but also support partners and technical staff to provide best practices guidance across their customer projects This role is responsible for providing technical input to assist the sale of support and services to corporate customers and partners This includes understanding the customers requirements providing technology input during the sales process and designing appropriate solutions using Ubuntu technologies In many instances youll implement the solution for the customer ensuring theres a single point of contact through the whole project This role is suitable for someone who enjoys customer contact technical solutions design and project delivery Youll need to be comfortable in a fastpaced environment able to take responsibility for delivering to customers and enjoy a challenge Responsibilities Provide technical assistance to the sales team and partners Technically verify customer requirements and convert them into appropriate solutions Prepare and present technical sales collateral such as presentations how to guides and technical comparison documents Develop propose and present custom technical solutions Ensure that customer deliverables for deployment projects are delivered on time and with the required quality level Maintain any necessary customer contact until project is completed Consistently deliver a high level of customer service Acquire the technical and product skills required to meet customer requirements Experience Requirements Proven commercial experience in a similar role Advanced Linux Hands on experience with Intel hardware servers and desktops Additional experience with UNIX based systems a plus Hands on experience with storage and network equipment in an enterprise setting Ability to quickly learn and understand new technologies used in the datacenter Hands on experience with one or more of the following Active Directory integration of Linux desktops into Windows Infrastructure OpenLDAPeDirectoryFDS – Directory Services High Availability Clustering (RHCS Veritas other) – File Systems Servers Databases Application Servers – J2EE (WebSphere JBoss BEA other) Virtualisation Technologies – ESX Server Xen KVM Internet Infrastructure Services Apache HTTPD FTP Servers DNS etc Database Technologies Oracle DB2 Postgres MySQL Experience in delivering an enterpriseclass system cradle to grave General understanding of the Linux kernel ability to perform advanced troubleshooting (debuggers network sniffers etc) Ability to manage multiple issues and projects while maintaining a high level of detail Effectively manage and grow existing Enterprise customer and partner relationships by delivering best of class support Experience managing customer relationship consulting account management or direct support Advanced Scripting some programming and Linux software packaging experience a must Relevant IT certification at engineer level such as RHCE LPIC2 CNE etc nicetohave 3+ years or equivalent of sales engineering or consultancy experience 5+ years or equivalent experience in Linux or UNIX system administration or development Extensive knowledge of Linux and Open Source in enterprise organisations Consultative selling or customer service experience Excellent communications and presentation skills both verbal and written Ability to be productive in a globally distributed team through selfdiscipline and selfmotivation Linux, IT Sales
