This recruitment is being held to establish an open Eligible List to fill a vacancy with Health Care Agency, Correctional Health Services (CHS). The eligible list may also be used to fill future vacancies in this class until the next recruitment.
THE PROGRAM:
Adult Correctional Health Services (ACHS)
Adult correctional Health Services (ACHS) provides medical, dental, mental health, vision, and pharmacy services to adult inmates housed in the County's five correctional facilities. ACHS also contracts with local hospitals for inpatient and specialty care.
THE POSITION:
The Comprehensive Care Registered Nurse II (CCRN II) position will provide medical and mental health services for inmates and detainees housed in the Orange County jail facilities.
Responsibilities for the Comprehensive Care Registered Nurse II position include but are not limited to:
Intake screening and triage of all new arrestee/detainee bookings into the facilities
Determination of whether arrestees/detainees can be accepted and safely managed in the facility
Management of psychiatric and medical conditions
Medication administration and management
Daily sick call
Medical and psychiatric emergency response
Crisis intervention
Participation in team meeting for discharge planning and patient evaluations
5150 evaluation
Speak, write, communicate effectively
Ability to use a computer for report writing, data collection and communication
Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
License Required
Possession of a valid Registered Nurse License issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing
A valid American Heart Association Healthcare provider CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) certification and a valid AED (Automated External Defibrillator) certification are required by date of appointment
A California Driver's License is required for some positions
Experience
One year of experience as a Registered Nurse in which six months was spent in acute, ambulatory, or mental health setting.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Highly Desirable
Experience in a correctional and/or psychiatric setting
Bilingual ability in Spanish/English and Vietnamese/English
Software proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony or be on any form of probation.
Must be able to pass and maintain extensive OCSD (Orange County Sheriff's Department) security background clearance. A comprehensive background check will be performed by the Sherrif's Department prior to appointment. (Background check inludes: Financial, Criminal History, Employment Record plus other areas.)
The institution is a 24-hour, 7 days a week facility, candidate must be able to work on weekends, evenings or night shift and holidays.

Physical Characteristics
:
Independent body mobility to stand, walk long corridors and climb or descend multiple stairways quickly, bend, stoop, sit for prolonged time and to drive a vehicle; strength to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; manual dexterity to reach, grasp, manipulate small objects and precision instruments to give injections, take pulse and blood pressure; manual dexterity to hand write or use computer keyboard; vision sufficient to see/read gauges, thermometers and calibrated measuring instruments, labels on mediations, computer screen and to drive a vehicle; hear and speak well enough to communicate with patients at normal conversation level in person and over the phone.
Environmental Conditions
:
Will be required to work in a locked facility with adult inmates who have multiple and complex health, social and psycho-social needs; may work with inmates who have communicable diseases; may be assigned to evening or night shift, assigned to work every other weekend, and to work holidays as needed as the institution is a 24 hour, 7 day a week facility and coverage is essential.
The Health Care Agency Human Resources will screen all application materials to identify qualified candidates. After screening, qualified candidates will be referred to the next step and notified of all further procedures applicable to their status in the competition.
Subject Matter Expert Review: (Weighted 100%)
Application materials will be rated by a panel of job knowledge experts for those qualifications most needed to perform the duties of the job. This is a competitive process; therefore, be thorough in your responses.
Only the most successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list.
Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
Based on the Department's needs, the selection procedures listed above may be modified. All candidates will be notified of any changes in the selection procedure.

A background check consisting of employment history, professional references, criminal check and educational verification (i.e., degree, license, and/or official transcript) will be conducted. All applicants will be required to pass the background check to the satisfaction of the Department.
