This position is located in Region One in the Regional Forester's office, serving the Regional Deputy Foresters, located in Missoula. This position assists the Deputy Regional Foresters in the analysis, development, installation of effective communications between the Regional Foresters Office and its contacts.

The USDA Forest Service has legislative authority to recruit and fill Permanent (Career/Career-Conditional), Temporary, and Term Appointments under the USDA Demonstration Project. Under this authority, any U.S. citizen may apply.

Responsible for the analysis, design, and implementation of communications utilizing new electronic communication technology and multiple source data. Provides confidential and personal services on a broad range of controversial resources, economic, and personnel matters managing assignments of a highly confidential nature. Provides scheduling/meeting information, briefing materials, and government travel arrangements. Prepares itineraries, briefing and information material packages and maps. Responsible for internal office continuity in absence of the Regional Forester's Team. Develops background information on resource management and policy issues in order to keep the acting Forester fully informed. Independently plans and carries out work assignments to completion, resolves office operational problems and coordinates work and assignments for an efficient office operation. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered eligible for this position. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Your application or resume must clearly show that you possess the appropriate experience requirements.

GS-9: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level; master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related; or an appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.

Examples of specialized experience are: Performing a variety of administrative and management support activities relating to the development, preparation, and coordination of program documentation. Such experience my include:

Knowledge of Management Internal Controls.

Skill in coordinating and tracking key internal controls.

Ability to coordinate and perform various administrative functions and to gather and integrate information from project/program activities

GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least to the GS-9 grade level; Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related; or an appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate level education (beyond what is required for a master's degree, i.e., more than 36 semester hours leading to a Ph.D.).

Examples of specialized experience are: Conducting detailed analyses of complex functions and work processes of broad administrative or technical programs. Conducting management surveys and research projects; providing advisory services on management issues; and conducting special studies of program functions and work processes. Such experience may include:

Monitoring all office administrative functions and transactions, and preparing a variety of reports utilizing various databases and automated systems.

Performing staff assistant duties to a high ranking official within the Regional Foresters Office.

Entrance on duty is contingent upon completion of a pre-employment security investigation. The position may require a Confidential, Secret, or Top Secret security clearance or be subject to a Public Trust background investigation at the time of appointment, and may be subject to reinvestigation every five years thereafter. A favorable adjudication of the clearance or background investigation at the time of appointment and on reinvestigations is a condition of employment.

This position requires completion of a three-year probationary period in accordance with the USDA Demonstration Project Authority. During this time period, employee's conduct and performance will be monitored in order to determine if employee will be retained.
