Primary Responsibilities:
Works with a team to develop new products and add features to existing products in the railroad signaling industry

Specify, Design and Implement software in C and C++ on Linux

Applies engineering designs of new/modified products/systems in response to contract related submissions or R&D activities meeting quality, cost and delivery objectives.

Implements applying company standards and customer specifications.

Investigates, troubleshoots, and provides recommendations in resolving problems.

Provides technical input to or provides required documentation as needed per assigned procedure, process, and activity being performed, including partnering with technical writing/training staff.

May provide technical support and coordination of product/system installations.

May interface with external contacts including vendors, contractors, customers on technical matters.

Development planning for software components, part of standard products

Submit design and related documentation for finished software product

Participate in design reviews as necessary

Execute development activities with direction.

Keeps abreast of technologies used by the company, industry to remain current and prepared for technology changes within the work environment.

Performs other related activities as requested.


Education, Skills and Experience required:
  • Technical BS degree in related major for functional area (i.e. Computer Science, Computer or Software Engineering)
  • Experience with software languages (C, C++, C#, Linux, UNIX and/or Windows-based software development language)

Working knowledge of CMMI or IEEE Software development methodologies


Experience with software debugging tools

  • Proficient in MS Office
  • 7+ years related experience
  • Project environment including interface with manufacturing
  • Willing to travel domestically and/or internationally
Preferred Education/Experience/Skills:
  • Knowledgeable in Systems software
  • Rail signaling industry specific experience a plus
  • Understanding of industry standards and terminology a plus
