PURPOSE OF THE JOB Remove, package, transport, or dispose of non-regulated, regulated and/or hazardous materials in accordance with all government rules and regulations while focusing attention on personal safety and the safety of others, including the public and the environment. DUTIES 1. Follow prescribed safety procedures and comply with all applicable state and federal rules, laws and regulations to reduce or eliminate exposures to employees, the public and environment. 2. Recognize known and suspected hazardous materials such as asbestos, lead, PCBs, Mold, Mercury, etc. that may need to be removed or may cause an exposure if disturbed. 3. Identify and communicate the existence of hazards to co-workers, eliminate the hazards for which they have the authority and that are under their control and inform the supervisor of hazards that are beyond their control. 4. Load and unload materials, waste and equipment onto trucks by hand or using mechanical means such as forklifts. 5. Operate vehicles and machinery such as lifts, forklifts and lulls, loaders, trucks, etc. to access, demolish and transport materials, waste, and debris. 6. Apply chemicals to wet asbestos and/or aid in removing mastics, paints, sealants or similar materials. 7. Construct and install decontamination facilities, negative pressure systems, containments and other engineering controls prior to remediation, abatement and demolition activities to ensure that waste generated during the work does not migrate to areas that are not restricted or regulated. 8. Clean works sites using prescribed methodologies, i.e. wet methods and HEPA vacuums, throughout the process to eliminate the accumulation of hazardous materials during the work and at the completion of removal to pass visual inspections and clearance air monitoring when required. 9. Construct and disassemble scaffolding, isolation barriers, shoring, braces, barricades, ramps, and other temporary structures. 10. Remove and/or demolish building materials using a variety of power and hand tools. 11. Package and containerize waste in approved bags, drums, containers, and receptacles prior to disposal to prevent exposures and contamination outside the restricted or regulated area. 12. Attend safety trainings and meetings to maintain authorization, certification, and knowledge as per company policy and regulatory mandates to safely and efficiently perform the work. 13. Operate, read, and maintain air monitoring and other sampling devices. 14. Report all incidents, accidents, injuries, property loss immediately to the supervisor, whether the incident involved you or you bore witness to such incident, whether or not property damage or physical injury occurred, immediately to the site supervisor. Participate in accident/incident investigations. 15. May complete paperwork as directed, assist in the training of other employees, and reviewt safety related matters with other laborers. 16. Promote and participate in programs, processes, and initiatives that are intended to improve overall company performance. 17. Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS 1. Education Requirements High school diploma or GED desired. 2. Experience Requirements Some experience in general construction or abatement preferred3. General Requirements -OSHA 10 Hour Construction Safety and Health Training -Valid NYS asbestos certification -Proof of initial asbestos training and subsequent refresher training certificates (NYSDOH 2832 form) from an approved training provider -Transportation to and from the job site
