The Operations Manager will be responsible for the daily operation of this large Fixed Route service. This person will hold responsibility for daily system performance in all functions of operations, including supervising dispatchers and drivers. The Operations manager is primarily responsible for on-time performance and driver availability and contributes to maintain the safety culture of the division. The successful applicant will also primarily be responsibility for promoting a safe, reliable and efficient operating environment.
Examples of task include, but are not limited to:
Review current and next day manifest for efficiency and operational performance, prepares/reviews daily. Issues attendance and other work rule infractions.
Ensures all safety manuals, programs, policies and practices are current and meet the needs of the operating divisions.
Ensures safety regulations are being observed.
Ensures a consistent Safety Culture throughout the locations that incorporate operations, safety and maintenance departments and emphasizes the team approach and individual responsibility of all employees to achieve common goals.
Conducts accident and injury investigation as required, ensures compliance with all DOT regulations.
Monitors operators and staff performance to include spot checking various routes.
Assists the General Manger as needed.
Assist drivers and others to ensure quality service and fulfillment of contractual obligations.
Work is performed independently, but reports directly to the General Manager, reporting any service-related problems.
Works closely with all vehicle operators.
Works for employees and customers to ensure safety through continuous observation.
Provides functional expertise in safety regarding hiring of safety department exempt employees.
Works closely with the trainer, reporting observations of both good and poor technique and/or operation.
This job requires at least two years of experience in a supervisory position. The ideal candidate would have experience in a Fixed Route Transit position and have experience in scheduling and personnel management and training. This person must be able to work independently and have strong written and verbal skills. Knowledge of the contractual obligations is a must to perform this job correctly. In addition, knowledge of company policy assures that the field operator is using consistent measures to assess a driver's activity. CSP (Certified Safety Professional) Designation a plus. Knowledge of all applicable safety rules, regulations - FTA, FMCSA, DOT a plus. Ability to effectively problem-solve and manage employees in a unionized environment essential. CDL preferred, but not required.
