We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Geochemist to join our Denver, Colorado office. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to play a key role in our mining and environmental group, working alongside strong, nationally recognized, technical staff on mining and other environmental projects. Key responsibilities are outlined below.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide support, direction and supervision of geochemical projects, specifically in mining environments
  • Conduct, direct, and review technical and characterization studies including geochemical evaluations for the mining industry (soil, mine wastes, ore bodies) related to waste characterization, ARD prediction and water management (groundwater and surface collection)
  • Collect, manage, interpret/analyze defensible geochemical data
  • Predict complex water-rock and water-water interactions for permitting and remedial projects
  • Provide water quality and geochemical modeling using a variety of analytical tools, report preparation and technical review
  • Lead and participate in technical discussions, presentations and negotiations with regulatory agencies, stakeholders and clients
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of others on projects; ensure proper and timely execution on projects
  • Help mentor junior level staff members
  • Successfully manage and deliver projects on time and on budget
  • Provide marketing and technical support during the procurement and execution of key projects as requested
  • Participate in BC’s QA/QC process
Qualifications:
  • M.S. or PhD degree in Geochemistry, Hydrogeology, Geology, Environmental Science or related field, ideally with a focus on mining-related activities required
  • Professional registration or the ability to apply and received registration preferred
  • Candidate should have strong knowledge of geochemistry, surface water and groundwater interactions, hydrology, water treatment and physical and chemical hydrogeology
  • Minimum of ten years of related experience conducting and assessing geochemistry projects required
  • Ability to plan and execute field programs with knowledge of proper sampling techniques required
  • Demonstrated ability to track budgets and schedules and ability to execute on large interdisciplinary projects preferred
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information to clients, regulators, and colleagues in a readily-understood format essential
  • Experience with industry-standard geochemical software (PHREEQC, Geochemist Workbench, AquaChem, etc) a plus
  • Strong abilities with respect to data manipulation (e.g., EXCEL, ACCESS, PYTHON) desired
  • Familiarity with guidance documents used for mine waste characterization and mine water quality prediction (e.g., MEND, GARD Guide) a plus
  • Working knowledge of hydrogeology and geochemical modeling experience with PHREEQC and/or The Geochemist’s Workbench is a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills along with strong interpersonal, team building and critical thinking skills essential
  • Ability to work in large, multi-disciplinary teams to support large projects across offices nationally in the company is required
  • Knowledge of other mining-related disciplines is a plus
  • Understanding of hydrogeologic concepts as applied to environmental site assessments and investigations preferred.
