Web Developer II
The Web Developer II designs, codes and implements web pages that incorporate dynamic data, including web-based user interfaces, for use in enterprise systems. The Web Developer II may serve as the lead developer of a small team or may work on concurrent projects.
Reports to Director or Manager, Web & Mobile. Individual Contributor.
III. PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES % of Time Essential (E)
Functional Requirements: With a focus on creating web-based screens that consider usability, accessibility and browser compatibility, contributes to the authoring and analysis of business use cases and functional requirements. Translates functional requirements to design specifications and assists with implementation of prototypes and storyboards, as needed. 15%
Coding: With limited direction, designs, codes and implements web-based screens as defined by documented specifications.
Incorporates dynamic content in to web-based screens.
Develops data entry validation, workflow navigation and other business logic. 70%
Quality Assurance/Testing: Verifies that web-based screens conform to established standards for web-based User Interfaces. Assists with the development of automated testing scripts for the UI. Corrects defects that are discovered during the testing cycle. 10%
Education: Keeps up on industry trends and current technological standards, languages, coding techniques, utilities and operational considerations. Makes suggestions for process, coding, implementation, and performance improvements. Assists with the preparation and staging of internal software development presentations. 5%
IV. REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Education, Experience and Knowledge
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, or related field, from a four-year college or university, or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
A minimum of 3 years relevant experience in web development/design, or equivalent, including experience in the development of web-based screens for use in highly transactional, mission critical applications in heterogeneous environments/architectures for multi-user systems.
Strong knowledge of all aspects of the software development lifecycle: design, functional and technical requirements, coding, debugging, testing, release, and operational support.
Strong knowledge of agile software development methodologies, Service Oriented Architecture and object-oriented programming methodologies.
Strong knowledge of software development best practices, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
Strong knowledge of User Interface design principles.
Solid understanding of website usability, accessibility and browser compatibility issues.
Experience with content management systems (CMS) and version control systems.
Experience with Analytics Solutions (such as Omniture, Google Analytics).
Experience Optimizing for Search Engines.
Basic knowledge of Spring MVC and WebFlow 2.0 is desirable.
Experience developing accessible websites (Section 508, W3C WAI Guidelines, etc.) is desirable.
Highly proficient with the following technologies:
o Java Server Pages (JSP), XML and XSL.
o Spring or similar MVC framework for navigating web-based applications.
o XML: XSLT, DTD or Schema modeling, DOM/XPath/SAX parsing.
o XML transformations to HTML, PDF, or other file formats utilizing XSLT or JavaServer Pages (JSP).
o Web service technologies (JAX-WS, SOAP, WSDL).
o Emerging web standards, such as HTML5.
o Service oriented designs and technologies (AJAX, XML/JSON).
o Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, or equivalent tools used for the creation and management of web-
based graphics and other content is preferred.
