Behavioral Health Placement Specialist FT
The Behavioral Health Placement Specialist position performs all duties related to the processing of disposition/placement of patients in ED's who require inpatient behavioral health (psychiatric and/or substance abuse) for designated Vidant ED's and any other contracted hospitals. The Behavioral Health Placement Specialist is responsible for returning calls to these hospitals requesting assistance with placement of behavioral health patients. The Behavioral Health Placement Specialist is expected to provide appropriate referrals for placement for those meeting criteria for inpatient placement.
Interacts with a variety of internal and external referral sources is a major component of this position. The Behavioral Health Placement Specialist is required to work very closely and cooperatively with outside hospitals, referral sources, external and internal stakeholders that include ED staff/physicians, psychiatrists/extenders, Local Management Entities/Manage Care Organizations, state facilities, payors, etc. The staff in this position must demonstrate exemplary customer service skills and be able to balance numerous competing priorities. The Behavioral Health Placement Specialist must be able to work quickly with the goal of finding the "right bed for the right patient". The Behavioral Health Placement Specialist will regularly update the hospital seeking disposition as to the status of progress of securing placement for the patient. The Behavioral Health Placement Specialist must have knowledge and experience with the DSM ( most recent version). There may be times when the Behavioral Health Placement Specialist will need to provide backup or coverage for the BH Triage Team.
Minimum 2-year degree in related field, possessing at least two years experience in either an inpatient behavioral health setting or an outpatient emergency service setting.
Prefer Bachelor's in behavioral health field.
Graduate degree or work in a behavioral health field a plus.
If greater than 5 years experience in behavioral health placement or related exeperience, will consider without Associates degree.
3 - 5 years experience in working with behavioral health patients.
HOURS will be between 8:15 am and 6:45 pm and will include weekend coverage as part of the scheduling.
