The University of New Mexico has established branch colleges to serve the citizens of New Mexico and to provide the highest quality of education for students pursuing post secondary education at different locations throughout the state. Branch colleges respond specifically to the unique needs and multicultural backgrounds of their respective communities by offering both career and community education programs, these include certificate and associate degree programs, as well as transfer programs that prepare students for upper division entry into colleges and universities.
The Library Service Associate reports to the Library Director. The position will assist with the oversight of the Circulation desk at Zollinger Library during evening and weekend hours as well as managing the Library's serials collection. The position will manage the library's serials: check in new issues as they arrive, verify if issues have not arrived and claim them from vendor(s), enter new issue information into serials database, prepare serials for placement into collection, stacks management of serials collection, de-accessioning of older serials issues as needed. The position will assist with overseeing and coordinating the activities of student workers in the absence of the Circulation Manager and under the guidance of the Library Director, assist library patrons with computer use within the library proper, as well as in the library's computer lab, and assist library patrons with simple reference/informational requests.

High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Successful completion of at least 60 college-level credit hours; no previous work experience required.
Associates degree from an accredited college or university.
Knowledge of and experience using the Millennium integrated library system, including managing and locating patron records, circulating library materials and managing other library resources such as course reserves, study rooms, and laptop computers.
Strong knowledge of and experience using Microsoft Access.
Strong database management skills. Must be skilled in the use of computers in a PC, Windows-based operating environment.
Ability to interpret and evaluate patron informational needs and determine appropriate alternative solutions.
Able to work independently and in a team environment. Strong customer service orientation.
