Summary

Plans, designs, deploys and manages the storage infrastructure necessary to support the university's IT systems

Essential Job Functions:
Oversees storage management and the timely utilization of storage resources Develops and executes the strategy for the university IT storage management Plans and executes complicated deployment of and upgrades to major server storage and components in support of the university's required applications and services Monitors, maintains and troubleshoots critical components of the university servers and storage; resolves server and storage issues in a timely and professional manner; provides technical expertise to other university IT staff to assist in solving technical server and storage issues Acts as primary contact for support and maintenance of several technologies Creates and updates server and storage design and configuration documentation Applies sound root cause analysis and problem solving methodologies to successfully address issues on Server and Groupware Technologies supported systems Facilitates the security of university data through patch management and countermeasures Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Minimum of a bachelor's degree Significant amount of experience working in IT systems administration or in other related work

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or greater in computer science or a related field of study Experience managing servers in an enterprise environment 3 or more years of experience working in the role of lead storage administrator Experience working with storage in an enterprise environment Proficiency in scripting or light programming Experience working in higher education

Additional Requirements:
Valid systems administration certification Proficiency in the various storage topologies and understanding the advantages and disadvantages of each Working knowledge of Cisco MDS (Multilayer SAN Switches), HP EVA, HP MSA, NetApp Nexsan storage products, EMC Data Domain, and Comvault Simpana Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills including the ability to adapt communication style to meet the needs of the individual customer Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail with ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks within rigid time constraints This position requires some weekend and evening assignments, including availability for participation in scheduled and unscheduled activities
