Our Red Hat engineering team is seeking a Software Engineer to develop, maintain, and fix bugs for Linux kernel drivers. In this position, you'll be involved in re-basing Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) drivers to the latest upstream versions, generating patch sets for submission to the Red Hat Enterprise Linux kernel, and building and testing development kernels. Our Software Engineer will also have the opportunity to work with various original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to develop and maintain their network drivers on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Primary job responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and fix bugs for Linux kernel drivers
  • Review posts on to generate back ports to Red Hat kernels
  • Perform patch generation, testing, internal path posting procedures, and internal review of proposed patches

Required skills
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or another technical discipline
  • Outstanding C programming experience - developing Linux kernel drivers for X86-64 hardware or on embedded devices is preferred
  • General driver writing knowledge, or specific network driver writing experience with bug fixing, maintaining, or developing in a Linux kernel environment
  • Installing, maintaining, and modifying Linux kernels in Red Hat distributions or their clones
  • Experience with git to create kernel patches
  • Involvement with Linux or Fedora Project is preferred
  • Knowledge on interrupt handlers such as MSI or single root I/O virtualization (SR-IOV) is a plus
  • General knowledge of transmission control protocol (TCP), internet protocol (IP), and networking is a plus
