Higher One’s New Haven office is now hiring a Sous Chef for its food services. This is not a normal cafeteria by any means. Our goal in the kitchen is to provide the staff we feed with quality locally sourced inspired dishes. The operation is run by a small team of cooks and an Executive Chef. We’re looking for someone to complete our team and help manage the kitchen. To get an Idea of what we do, here are some house-made foods we take pride in:

Charcuterie and Deli Meats – Sausages (cured and fresh), bacon, pancetta, variety of salami and roasted items for our deli station
Breads/Rolls – sandwich breads, cibatta, sourdough, semolina, focaccia, nann, pita….. that list goes on
Yogurt – using CT milk and producing our own cultured product
Pastas – from alkaline noodles for ramen to semolina linguine for bolognaise…

We also try to source as much as possible from CT’s farmers and growers. We want to show our diners that CT has a great farming community that deserves some attention for their incredible produce. We even go as far to source New England produced grain for breads and pastas.


The type of personality we’re looking for in a Sous Chef is someone who honestly and genuinely enjoys crafting foods. Experience in producing all the items above is a requirement, so please mention your direct experience related to preparing these items on your resume. Understanding of modernist approaches and precision cooking techniques is a plus. This is a traditional Sous Chef position with the added responsibility of a Chef de Cuisine. The candidate needs to have strong menu writing skills and an understanding of preparing quality hand-crafted foods in a large volume setting. Also, responsible for leading and managing the team in the kitchen though preparation and service. We prepare a new menu everyday!

If you’re a restaurant Sous or de Cuisine that is looking to work days and have the weekends off, this would be a great opportunity for you. If you’re a chef coming from a corporate setting looking to learn more and be creative, this may be a good opportunity as well, but you would have to have the same experience preparing the craft-foods listed above.

Union free, 50-60 hours a week, 7AM to 5 or 6PM, occasional events at night (few per year). Help bring our kitchen to the next level!
