SAIC is looking for qualified Sport Psychologists to support the Special Operations Command (SOCOM), contingent on contract award to SAIC’s team.

Position Description: SOCOM is the higher command of all Special Forces in the United States Military including units such as Army Green Berets, Army Rangers, Navy SEALS, etc. SOCOM is currently receiving proposals for implementation of a comprehensive approach to Human Performance using professional sport organizations as a model framework. Much like a professional athletic team, each unit will have a performance support staff to include strength & conditioning, physical therapy, nutrition, athletic training, and sport psychology and other staff..Contingent on contract awarding, SAIC will employ sport psychology positions to facilitate this implementation. Successful candidates will be hired to ensure Special Operations Forces (SOF) personnel develop sound performance psychology principles necessary to maximize training and performance during operations. Ultimately, these candidates are charged with helping SOF personnel to realize their human performance potential while also increasing their overall physical and emotional well-being. Successful candidates will have the following specific responsibilities:

  • Facilitate development of specific mental, behavioral, psychosocial, perceptual, and emotional control skills and strategies to improve performance during training and operations; Advise the Human Performance Program (HPP) Manager in matters relating to mental performance, exercise and sport psychology; Provide psychological advice to SOF personnel based on evidence-based peer-reviewed literature; Provide information about psychological factors in performance, sport, exercise, and physical activity to individuals and groups; Assist the HPP Staff with goal-setting, performance profiling, visualization, and performance planning.
  • Participate in periodic meetings to review human performance training provided to personnel and identify opportunities for improvement; Collaborate with the HPP team to enhance the quality and effectiveness of interventions delivered; Maintain professional currency through professional development to ensure state of art expertise and service provision.
  • Support research conducted under supervision of the HPP Manager; Provide input for the development and utilization of relevant databases; Participate in peer (record) reviews for the HPP staff (quarterly for non-privileged healthcare providers); Collect and report workload data as requested by the HPP manager; Assist the HPP manager in developing and maintaining practice guideline to ensure consistency of service across all SOF units designated under the contract; Develop and deliver training for the HPP staff to cultivate further professional expertise and enhance the possibility of professional advancement.
Qualifications:
Qualifications and Education: The candidate shall possess a doctoral degree in Human Performance or Kinesiology/ Exercise and Sport Science with a specialization in Sport Psychology. A minimum of five years experience providing sport/performance psychology services with elite athletes is highly desired. Acknowledged competence through attainment of Certified Consultant through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) is desired, but not required. The candidate shall be capable of meeting physical demands of training with SOF including the ability to hike over rough terrain and function in austere environments to observe SOF training evolutions and the ability to assist with strength and conditioning testing and training protocols, and lift and manipulate loads or weights up to 20 kilograms.
