The Infection Prevention and Control Specialist has the following responsibilities. Implements the Exempla Infection Prevention Plan and contributes to development; Assists in the annual program plan review; Assists in the maintenance and updating of policies and procedures relative to the infection control program. |
Ensures compliance with applicable regulatory guidelines and requirements. Collaborates with others such as Occupational Health for program effectiveness, infection prevention and control practice. Reviews and recommends new or revised practices or procedures based on currently accepted, evidence-based infection prevention and control strategies, current scientific literature; regulations, standards and/or guidelines of applicable professional organizations, and governmental agencies
Develops a site-specific surveillance plan based on the populations served, services provided, and previous data where available; ensures consistency with the selected internal or external comparative databases; Uses appropriate statistical techniques to describe the data, calculate rates, and critically evaluate significance of findings
Analyzes surveillance data, including calculation of risk-adjusted rates appropriate to the indicator(s) when sufficient data are available; Uses standardized definitions for the identification and classification of events, indicators, or outcomes; Reports epidemiologically significant findings to appropriate customers as defined within the Infection Control Plan; Periodically evaluates the effectiveness of the surveillance plan and modifies as necessary
Routinely assesses the educational needs of customers relative to infection prevention, control, and epidemiology and creates educational objectives to meet the needs cost effectively. Collaborates in the development, delivery, and evaluation of educational programs or tools
Certification in Infection Control preferred.
Registered Nurse; Strongly preferred . Bachelor's Degree in health related field required.
Minimum 3 years experience in an infection prevention role.
Completion of a surveillance course preferred.
Knowledge and experience in areas of patient care practices, microbiology, asepsis, disinfection/sterilization, infectious diseases, program administration and epidemiology.
Effective analytical, data interpretation, report, technical, and writing skills.
Effective computer skills including applications and database management.
Effective presentation, interpersonal, adult learning/teaching, and communication skills.
Ability to function autonomously.
Manual dexterity and physical agility to operate all equipment and perform all procedures.
Completes identified role specific competencies/skills by the end of orientation.
Ongoing demonstration of role specific competencies/skills.
