Will be assisting benefits manager with merging 401K plans into exisitng corporate 401K plan. Will be obatining information and data from plan custodians and TPA's for use in formally converting and closing numerous 401K plans. Must have a solid knowledge of 401K plans and their administration, must have some experience with merging and closing 401K plans and necessary filings and communications to close plans. Prefer about 3 years experience in 401K plan administration. Four year degree in HR, accounting or related area.
401k/pension specialists enroll employees in retirement plans, recording how much they wish to contribute from each paycheck, as well as how they wish to invest the money. The also make changes to the plan when employees request them. Specialists also compile period summaries or reports about the value of accounts.
401k/pension specialists answer questions about retirement plans, including information about eligibility, any matching or funding done by the employer and about investing options. The specialists do not provide financial planning services, however, and cannot advise employees about where to invest their retirement plans.
Most employers require 401k/pension specialists to have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in human resources or a similar field. The ability to interpret financial data and use software programs such as word processing, email, databases and spreadsheets is also necessary.
Bachelor's degree in business, human resources, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. Minimum of three years experience administering employee benefit plans in the health and welfare areas. Experience administering 401 (k) retirement programs. Must have computer skills and the ability to learn HRIS system (Ceridian and/or ADP). Must be proficient in WordPerfect and Lotus or Excel. helpful. Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Superior verbal/written skills and presentation skills. Good punctuation, spelling, grammar and attention to detail a must. Strong interpersonal skills essential. Course work/seminar attendance in the benefits areas helpful (e.g. CEBS, ACA or related course work). Strong knowledge and understanding of insurance regulations, plan designs and third party record keeping/administration required. Familiarity with COBRA, ERISA, FMLA and related state and federal regulations required.
