Oversees regulatory compliance activities as it pertains to Department of Transportation (DOT) gas pipeline safety rules. Monitors customer service practices for compliance with applicable internal and external procedures. Conduct operational compliance audits to provide assurance that all required policies, procedures, standards and general industry practices are being followed in field operations.

Detailed Description

Research and interpret Department of Transportation (DOT) safety rules. Prepare and/or review company gas operations and customer service field and accounting practices to comply with federal rules and regulations and company procedures; ensure public safety; and improve efficiencies.

Evaluate proposed DOT rules and regulations and applicable state regulatory actions; consult with state and federal regulators regarding the practicality and implications of proposed rulings.

Attend state regulatory pipeline safety inspections to serve as a liaison between company management and the state inspectors.

Conduct regulatory compliance audits and prepare responses to state regulatory commission safety audits.

Conduct Emergency Preparedness Drills to provide assurance to emergency response plans.

Research, analyze, compile, and/or prepare information and recommendations related to:

Applicable state regulatory pipeline safety rules

Customer Service Field Manual

Customer accounting processes and activities

DOT Regulations - Parts 191 and 192 including: Operator Qualification and Public Awareness

Company operations and maintenance procedures

Damage Prevention and Public Awareness Plans

Emergency Response Plans

Responses to Notices of Probable Safety Violations

Correspondence with gas industry associations regarding proposed rules

Operating activates report

Incident reporting

Communicate with and/or direct, train, or assist company personnel, state regulatory officials, and DOT regulators relative to regulatory compliance issues and company procedures and practices.

Regular and reliable attendance is required in performance of job.

Employee may be required to perform additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree in engineering or an equivalent combination of formal education and the following job related experience:

Experience in various phases of distribution and/or transmission field and administrative functions.

Working knowledge of piping standards and design; applicable operations standards; and corrosion control and odorization processes.

Application of math and algebraic formulas and statistics.

Experience in use and function of office equipment including computers and applicable software.

Experience and/or training including but not limited to:

Developing and revising emergency response plans

Interpersonal/communication skills

Customer services field policies and procedures

Customer service accounting processes

Transmission/distribution pipeline operations

Experience identifying, researching, evaluating and prioritizing problems or specific situations and coordinating appropriate action/response.

Experience researching and preparing policies, procedures, responses and recommendations regarding company procedures, state regulatory safety audits, Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations and EPA regulations.

Experience reading and interpreting DOT regulations, Parts 191 and 192; Pipeline Safety Rules; Customer Service Field Manual; EPA regulations; and various other technical documents relative to governmental rules and regulations.

Experience interacting, advising, and communicating effectively.

Experience developing information and making presentations to groups and individuals.

Demonstrated ability to read and write fluently in English.

Additional Details


Applicable driver?s license. Requires travel to other company offices and facilities and to job sites.


Mobility to travel in and around plant and office facilities and around job sites out-of-doors.

Able to operate tools and equipment required.


Able to communicate and exchange information; conduct oral presentations.


Sufficient to perform job duties.
