DESCRIPTION

The Director of Product Development will collaborate with our Hong Kong team in the development and execution of our product development strategy and processes for all categories of business. This individual will be responsible for the timely roll-out of new products based on data driven analytics as well as creating brand road maps using well-defined criteria. As part of our senior leadership team, the position is based at our U.S. corporate office in Arlington Heights, Illinois.

DUTIES

Responsibilities for our Director of Product Development include:

Under the direction of Hong Kong Headquarters our Product Development Director will:

  • Collaborate on establishing product development design and content for all products with
  • Oversee day-to-day product development activities including product ideation and design, costing, scheduling, market viability studies and product quality.
  • Responsible for developing short and long term product and brand road maps utilizing both quantitative and qualitative research.
  • Create a "best practices" model for incorporating consumer focus groups, industry data and marketplace trends into the integration of new product strategies.
  • Drive product development efforts to ensure all new product introductions are aligned with the overall brand strategy.
  • Work closely with the Marketing and Sales teams to align the communication of key messaging through public relations, advertising, trade shows, sales materials, websites and media.
  • Collaborate on budget/prioritization of the Product Development spending.
  • Motivate and lead a team of six direct reports within the Product Development area
  • Provide relevant product category insight based on consumer behavior and industry trends.
  • Manage a group of outside educators, advisors, and curriculum experts to help define curriculum for learning products.
  • Overseas travel to HK (at least three times per year) as well as domestic travel required.
QUALIFICATIONS

Our ideal candidate will have the following experience:
  • Prior experience working in a US subsidiary with Asian Headquarters is required.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in product development/product design as it relates to the development of consumer product goods with an emphasis on infant/preschool learning.
  • Degree in Early Childhood Development or related fields preferred with a thorough understanding of technology tools used for the infant and preschool learner.
  • Strong knowledge of the licensing industry as it relates to the product development process and guidelines for classic consumer product brands such as Disney.
  • Demonstrable experience of building and enhancing brand messaging.
  • Ability to manage budgets, costs, develop metrics.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
