Level A (General)

Job Description
We are hiring two workers for spring/fall, with the potential to stay through the summer as in intern in the FoodWorks program. go/mfw. The same two workers would ideally stay through the summer and will continue in the position after returning to campus in the fall. The position will require approximately 5-10 hours a week during the school year and would increase to 35 in the summer.

The responsibilities of this position include working at the farm for a number of hours each week as well as coordinating and directing volunteer efforts at the farm site. This includes soliciting student volunteers and working closely with the Farm Manager to prioritize projects and direct labor. Employees should expect to send e-mail updates to the farm list and facilitate incentive programs such as the student fall CSA operation. These employment positions will follow the growing season. Therefore, the positions begin during spring semester (March, April and early May) with hours increasing as the farm warms up. The hours will decrease appropriately as fall crops are harvested. The position ends after the farm is put to bed for the winter in November. Per-week commitment may vary according to weather. Employees will be working closely with the Farm Manager to determine an accurate schedule on a week-to-week basis.

Because the position involves a good amount of autonomy and leadership, it is preferred that applicants have some prior farm experience with vegetables and livestock (chickens and pigs). Applicants should also be confident in their ability to teach farming techniques to volunteers.

To apply please answer the following questions, not to exceed 500 words total: Why do you want the position? What is your farming and/or gardening experience? What strengths will you bring to the position? Applications for the 2013 season are due by midnight on March 1st, 2013.

Questions on this position should be directed to Food and Farm Educator, Sophie Esser Calvi @
