B lackstone Valley Prep Mayoral Academy is now hiring rock star educators for the 2013-14 school year who are willing to do whatever it takes to put all scholars on a path to college. We are looking for a diverse pool of applicants representing a multitude of experiences and backgrounds including those which mirror the rich diversity of the scholars we serve.

I nstruction at Blackstone Valley Prep is driven by local and and Common Core State Standards and aligned assessments to determine scholar needs. Our teachers frequently receive targeted feedback and support from their principal and from their peers and are motivated by a desire to continuously improve their practice. Likewise, all of our teachers are held accountable for clearly outlined student outcomes. Collaboration is a must as our K-1 team co-plans lessons and co-teaches in an assigned homeroom all day together.
Our school day and year are both extended and teachers are held to high expectations to collaboratively plan creating a full day of instruction that maximizes learning time and provides high quality standards based instruction. The extended school day and school year at BVP are part of the high expectations focus of our schools. Teachers maximize every second of learning time so that our scholars receive eight plus hours a day of high quality standards based instruction. Teachers also teach several Saturday Opportunity Days to provide targeted small group instruction to students who need additional academic intervention and support. While teachers’ scheduled hours are 7:30AM-4:30PM, it is more common for our team to work much longer hours to prep 100% of scholars for success in college. Teaching responsibilities at BVP in grades 2-4 is content based while also including some homeroom responsibilities as well.

BVP team members create a positive academic learning environment that provides both structure and joy to build student investment and maintain a high level engagement throughout the school day. T hose candidates hired for the 2013-14 that are available to start earlier than August are encouraged to join us on a per diem basis to offer additional classroom support while jump- starting their own onboarding experience.
Responsibilities of a BVP Teacher:
o Hold all scholars to high academic and behavioral expectations.
- Instruction Focused on Student Mastery
o Deliver results and increase each individual scholar’s achievement.
o Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and teach in both whole group and small group settings to support learning.
o Actively participate in the RTI process and provide appropriate interventions or enrichment
o Engage 100% of students in the learning
o Create and manage a classroom culture in collaboration with the team to build an exceptional academic, social, and emotional public school experience for the scholars in your class(es).

o Positively frame behavioral expectations and adhere to the agreed upon school-wide behavior system built upon BVP PRIDE values.
o Build positive relationships with scholars and their families grounded in the belief that all scholars can achieve at high levels.

o Use data appropriately to plan instruction for a diverse group of learners

o Thoughtfully plan lessons and assessments that build scholars’ basic skills and push them to think at a higher level
