Penn State Hillel seeks a dynamic, creative, and self-motivated individual to serve as Engagement Associate .
The Engagement Associate will share responsibility with the staff and student leaders of Penn State Hillel for diversifying, energizing and inspiring Jewish life at the Pennsylvania State University.
Building on Penn State Hillel’s strategic engagement initiative, the successful candidate will connect with uninvolved students and explore ways to create meaningful Jewish experiences that are both relevant and impactful in their lives.

Engagement and Outreach:
Identify uninvolved student populations and develop strategies for connecting with and serving them.
Develop one-on-one relationships with Jewish students by meeting them where they live, work, and study, utilizing creative and innovative methods to reach and interest them.
Utilize relationship-building, community organizing and social networking to reach engagement goals.
Cultivate a community that is caring, diverse, pluralistic, welcoming and actively inclusive
Represent Penn State Hillel on campus with students, faculty, and administration as appropriate, as well as in the wider community.
Program Support & Execution:
Participate as a member of the Penn State Hillel professional staff in most major programs, including Shabbat and holiday programming (via staff rotation).
Work collaboratively with student leadership, particularly the central student board and Hillel programming committee, on student-initiated programs.
Serve as a mentor and build positive relationships with student leaders.
Immersion Experience Implementation:
Assist with the administration, recruitment, and staffing of Taglit-Birthright Israel and Alternative Spring Break trips.
Create and implement on-campus opportunities for follow-through after immersion experiences.
Marketing and Communication:
Collaborate with staff and students to develop ways to reach uninvolved student populations.
Develop Penn State Hillel’s weekly email and other publicity pieces.
Advise students in the use of effective marketing tools to improve awareness about programs and opportunities.
Participate in weekly professional supervision with the assistant director, in weekly staff meetings and in regular engagement team meetings with the assistant director and Israel Fellow.
Supervise, mentor, and assist student leadership and student interns, as appropriate.
Work collaboratively with the staff to actively seek out and prepare grant proposals for program and engagement support, particularly through Hillel’s Schusterman International Center and Penn State’s University Park Allocations Committee.
Develop assessment tools to evaluate engagement and programming efforts.
Creativity, adaptability, a sense of humor, and excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership development skills are essential. The Engagement Associate must have an entrepreneurial spirit, be capable of working independently and as part of a team, and have the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
Candidates must have an undergraduate degree. Prior professional experience desirable, but not required. Salary is commensurate with experience, and Penn State Hillel offers a comprehensive benefits package.
