TITLE: Network Administrator

Under the direction of the IT Operations Director, the Network Administrator’s role is to design, install, administer, and optimize company networks, voice over IP system and related components to achieve high performance of the various required business applications. This includes ensuring the availability and reliability of Kärcher’s WAN/LAN architecture, configuring all new implementations, and developing processes and procedures for ongoing management of the network environment. Where applicable, the Network Administrator will oversee the security, integrity, and safety of the network, data center, digital and capital assets.


Asset Management
Maintain a comprehensive list of all networking equipment and attributes
Ensure licensing is current and complies with licensing agreements
Manage full network equipment hardware life cycle, acquisition to retirement

Document the company’s existing systems architecture and topology; make recommendations for improvements and/or alternatives
Maintain current diagrams of LAN/WAN designs for all sites and equipment
Develop and maintain training materials
Document regular maintenance, troubleshooting, and technical procedures as necessary
Log network problems and resolutions

Plan, administer, deploy, support, and troubleshoot all VoIP systems across Kärcher North America from server to desktop

Routers, Switching, and Wireless
Configure, deploy, and administer all switches, routers, and wireless controllers according to established standards

Data and Voice Circuits
Coordinate, recommend, monitor, support all data and voice circuits and providers
Uninterrupted Power Supplies
Administer and support all network and server UPS systems

Administer and support all video conference systems

Recommend policies and procedures to improve network security
Purchase, install, renew, and support all security certificates for servers and networking
Administer and support Radius server
Administer and support SAML server
Administer and support all proxy servers

Administer and support all DHCP issues

Plan and implement network and VoIP upgrades
Schedule and deploy VoIP server patching
Manage server hardware and software vendor maintenance contracts

Assist Technicians with Technical Issues
Assist in skills development and mentoring of assigned helpdesk technician(s)
Provide guidance and assistance for work orders submitted by technicians
Backup helpdesk and desktop technicians as needed

Monitor applications, services, bandwidth, usage, interfaces, and circuits
Setup and administer notification alerts for network-related hardware and software
Respond to alerts as appropriate
Review web usage and alert management of serious policy infringements

Analyze and resolve network system and application problems
Assure the quality of fixes and patches
Provide after-hours and on-call support for ‘ priority one ’ outages
Check helpdesk database for entries on network and network resources issues; prioritize and respond to helpdesk tickets as appropriate
Monitor support issues at sites to identify patterns and common issues with the aim of prioritizing resolution of issues that significantly improve the degree of reliability and quality of IS services
Lead teams in the planning, scheduling, coordination, and completion of assignments and projects
Act as project lead in the design and review of new network systems, applications, and hardware; conduct capacity planning as needed
Provide regular feedback and reports of project status

Attend approved training and workshops staying abreast of current technology
Cross-training with IT peers

Planning and Collaboration
Develop and execute test plans to check infrastructure and systems technical performance. Report on findings and make recommendations for improvement
Collaborate with IT peers on the development of standards and procedures
Suggest strategies for implementations and the infrastructure required to support those strategies
Coordinate needs assessments, capacity planning, and hardware/software procurement
Assist with development of standards and procedures for specifying and maintaining hardware and software for desktops and special purpose work stations including virtual machines
Coordinate with IT peers to ensure efficient operation and on the resolution of cross-functional problems
Promote adherence to IT policies and procedures

Other Assignments
Communicate outages, status updates, and maintenance schedules to users
This role acts as a backup to peer Administrators when needed and must be capable of providing all levels of IT support. The role works directly with other IT Administrator roles and should have a working knowledge of Windows Administration, Active Directory, Server Administration, Networking and Desktop technologies
Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education and experience; at least three years’ equivalent work experience in a senior technical analytical position responsible for managing network environments; experience installing, configuring, and maintaining all manners of network hardware and associated equipment including Cisco switches, routers, firewalls, and accelerators; experience with WAN optimization tuning and monitoring tools; business process and reengineering experience as well as an understanding of the relationship between processes and policies; experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

Knowledge and Skills
CCNP desired, CCNA required
Advanced knowledge of the Cisco Unified communications, Cisco switching and routing protocols
Knowledge of systems development life cycle methodologies and project management skills a definite asset
Strong understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives
Good written and oral communication skills
Good interpersonal skills
Strong customer service orientation
Highly self-motivated and directed with keen attention to detail

Setup, tune, and monitor Cisco networking and VoIP hardware and software and caching
Ability to conduct research into server issues and products as required
Effectively prioritize tasks in a high pressure environment
Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
Availability to respond to system outages during off-hours
Availability to travel to other Kärcher sites to perform maintenance, upgrades, and projects (including international travel)

Work Environment
On-call availability, occasional overtime, and weekend work; sitting for extended periods of time; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other computer components; lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects; such as computers, printers, and other peripherals.
