The 84-year-old DuPont Belle plant is located just outside Charleston, WV and employs more than 400 DuPont employees and about 150 resident contractors. The site produces a wide range of products and applications found in plastics manufacturing, home and personal care products, crop protection chemicals, automotive products and industrial manufacturing. Some DuPont products manufactured on site include Methyl Amines, DMF/DMAC, DME/DMS, Glycolic Acid, Vazo® and Hexazinone.

The site is also home to the polyglycolic acid (PGA) facility owned by the Kureha Corporation of Japan, a specialty plastics and chemicals manufacturer.

Position Overview:
Provides support for process control systems, including distributive control systems, programmable logic controllers, data historians, analyzers, instrumentation technology and general IT knowledge.

Draws upon significant past experiences with process control equipment and the process to make business-based decisions. Has responsibility for assessing the quality, robustness, and capability of the process’ control and making decisions, with others, to halt or modify production as needed should the control not meet quality and/or safety standards.

Responsibilities:
Safety, Health, Environmental & Core Values

Support or lead PSM related activities as it pertains to controls and safety instrumented systems.

For example,



Participate in PHAs and incident investigations.



Design and resource function tests.



Identify improvements.



Commission and start-up new safety interlocks and systems.



Troubleshoot issues with safety interlocks.

Delivery



Establish and track all process control network (PCN) loops and available space with the control system for planning and strategy of future expansions and upgrades.



Perform control system software maintenance, upgrades and backups.



Provide initial troubleshooting of unplanned failures of control system and interface between control systems.



Share 24x7 operations support coverage as a part of a control system support team.



Design, configure and commission new control systems - including I/O, controllers, programs, logic, graphics and IT infrastructure.



Assure conformance with cybersecurity standards on the process control network (i.e. Install routine OS patches and virus definition files)

Productivity



Establish, control, review and maintain control system parts availability plan.



Maintain an active role in life cycle planning of control systems.



Coordinate all projects that require changes to or additions to the control systems.



Maintain and/or implement control system interfaces to data historians and alarm management systems.



Manage control system change documentation.



Actively participate in safety interlock and alarm management life cycle activities.



Identify opportunities for operational improvements involving control systems.



Conduct process performance problem solving, trouble shooting and loop tuning.



Work closely with other process control specialists, E&I mechanics, and engineers to trouble shoot and resolve control problems.



Proactively monitor and correct poor control loop and alarm performance.



Manage contractors that provide control system maintenance and support for projects.

Quality



Identify opportunities for quality control improvements and implementation within the control system.

Cost



Obtain or provide cost and duration estimates for control system upgrades and changes.



Manage control upgrades and changes within cost budget and according to project schedule.

Morale & Capability Building



Encourage and coach employees on appropriate mindsets and behaviors and to solve production related issues.



Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define opportunities for productivity improvement.



Provide input to personnel administrative activities such as employee performance, performance appraisal, staffing levels, etc.



Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) resource for training and learning matters, as needed, for new and existing employees.

Qualifications

Requirements:


Associate degree in related field (i.e. electronics, IT) preferred and/or equivalent work experience

Preferences:


Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certified



Applicable process control systems certification - i.e. ISA’s Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST) or Control Automation Professional (CAP)



Pertinent control system specific functional experience (i.e. Rockwell, Honeywell, Siemens, ABB)
