NCsoft West, the U.S. branch of NCsoft Corporation, the world's largest independent developer and publisher of online computer games is seeking a highly-motivated and highly-qualified Technical Administrator to become a member within the Live Operations Department, located in Austin, TX..

This Linux administrator will ensure the deployment, high availability, performance, and scalability of the Linux infrastructure in a 24/7x 365 online environments. This position involves the installation, upgrade, optimization of hardware, software, and services across a variety of platforms and technologies. The ideal candidate will have experience managing Linux systems and maintaining large enterprise server farms.

Must be able to document procedures well and provide training to the NOC employees as needed. This is a 24x7 on-call position

Responsible for implementation, maintenance, planning and capacity management of the production and development environments.

Work together with Support and Development Engineers to troubleshoot and resolve escalated production issues.

Establish operational best practices and standard operating procedures for deployment, support, break-fix, and systems management

Production deployment planning, testing and verification.

Assess utilization trends and make appropriate design and implementation recommendations to scale the architecture

Job Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering and/or Computer Science preferred

Minimum 5 years’ experience with Linux (

Red Hat or Centos preferred)

Experience maintaining and deploying software in ‘mission critical’ systems in a medium to large enterprise environment.

Experience working with Linux in a virtual environment ( Xen or VMware Preferred)

Strong knowledge of RPM base software management.

Experience using monitoring tools such as OpenNMS & Cacti.

Experience with Open Source projects and compiling custom software.

Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

with the ability to proactively identify possible issues and suggest corrective action

Strong written and verbal communication skills


Available for 24x7 on call support

Experience in following technologies are desired :
Web applications (including Apache, Tomcat, PHP, Java)


Server-level networking and network troubleshooting



Interfacing to SANs

Monitoring and Graphing (OpenNMS, Cacti)


Version Control Systems (Subversion, Perforce)

One or more scripting languages (Bash, Perl, Python, Ruby, etc.)

Deployment automation (Kickstart, Cobbler, Control Tier)

Load Balancing (F5 Big-IP LTM/GTM)

Virtual Server (XEN, ESX)

Special Recruiting requests:
Capable of lifting 50 lbs unassisted.

NOC or datacenter experience is a plus.

Able to travel domestically (10%)
