Cargill Engineering R&D is one of Cargill's corporate research groups based in Minneapolis, USA and Vilvoorde, Belgium. This is a fast-paced, growing area within Cargill, and impacts the full range of Cargill's operations - from grain and oilseed processing to fermentation and novel food ingredients. Our scope includes projects from conception through process definition and plant start up to optimization of operating facilities for both Cargill and our customers. We have a diverse range of talents in Technology Project Management, Chemical Engineering Fundamentals and Engineering Numerical Analysis space. Within the Engineering Numerical Analysis space, we have expertise in process simulation, control and data visualization, optimization, computational fluid dynamics, statistics, numerical methods, and more.
We are currently looking for a highly skilled engineer to work as an independent contributor providing in-depth engineering modeling expertise to complex projects. In this position, you will collaborate to design, plan and execute on projects which will improve the profitability of the business while independently leading the process modeling and optimization to achieve an improved process design while managing safety and/or environmental risks. Optimization activities could also lower operations costs, minimize capital spending, or improve product attributes.
This position will contribute to projects using tools from more than one of our capabilities (process simulation, CFD, data analysis, process control); uses and develops protocols for data collection, model validation, and data visualization; and identifies potential risks associated with technology solution and engages to appropriately mitigate those risks.
This position will identify new process improvement projects, then use influence and drive to create those business opportunities with our many Cargill business units. You will build business cases for projects in conjunction with project sponsor to evaluate and realize the value from these opportunities and communicate project status with project sponsors.
40% - Technical Leadership in High Performance Innovation: Work with process engineers and chemists from existing businesses to develop complex process simulations that include the appropriate level of technical and economic detail to describe current operation. Apply these simulations to optimize the productivity and energy consumption of the process; to minimize the variability of production; and to support scale-up, debottlenecking and equipment modification.
35% - Technical Leadership - CFI: Work with engineers, chemists and biologists to develop possible flow sheets for a given new product. Describe new, first time flow sheets in a computer simulation, and develop capital and operating costs estimates, combining uncertainty modeling as appropriate, to identify the best processes to develop further. Develop first principles models to characterize and predict fundamental thermodynamics and kinetics of novel systems, guiding lab analyses and designing experiments.
15% - Project Management - Assure proper execution of complex, multidisciplinary projects through planning, resource allocation, milestone definition and budget management. Assure adequate resources are engaged to deliver technical success. Prepare detailed technical reports for the project team and the BU client.
10% - Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Degree in Chemical Engineering
Demonstrated experience with developing and applying advanced equation based modeling tools, such as Chemical Engineering simulation packages or programming skills in Fortran, Visual Basic or C
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in process modeling
Ability to develop business cases and projects that bring value using process modeling concepts
Strong verbal and written communication
Advanced degree (PhD or MS) in Chemical Engineering
Experience in intellectual property management
Experience using Aspen suite of process modeling tools
Experience in other equation based modeling tools, such as computational fluid dynamics
Experience in managing large data sets, database management
Experience in food industry
Project management skills
Fluent in Spanish
Able to travel in U.S. and internationally to support projects
