Performs responsible semiskilled custodial work in the care and cleaning of City owned buildings; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision. Supervision may be exercised over community service or other workers.
Essential Job Functions*:
Ability to perform light to moderate lifting up to 75 lbs.; Ability to climb ladders to clean overhead; Must be physically able to operate a variety of janitorial equipment and tools which include dust mops, wet mops, brooms, vacuums, buffers, etc. Visual acuity is required for determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work. Worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, and hazards. Worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and required to wear specialized protective equipment.
Dusts office and building furniture, walls and building fixtures; Cleans windows and glass doors; Vacuums carpets, drapes, upholstery, and water from floors; Empties refuse containers, refuse collection receptacles; Sweeps and mops non-carpeted floors and stairs; Sweeps and mops Transit Bus floors; Cleans toilets, urinals, sinks, restroom fixtures, trash cans; Removes wax and built-up residues from non-carpeted floors; Burnishes waxed floors with high-speed buffer; Cleans carpet and upholstery with shampooer; Cleans and/or clears exterior perimeters of buildings, sidewalks and parking areas of debris, snow, and ice; Makes simple repairs to equipment and/or fixtures; Recognizes and reports any unsafe conditions, areas, equipment and/or procedures; Climbs ladder to reach ceilings, blinds, windows, upper walls, light fixtures, exterior windows and exterior of buildings for cleaning; Reports to work on assigned duty schedule; Responds to emergencies situation as directed; Performs other reasonable duties as assigned.
May assist with unloading and storage of supplies; Moves and/or assists in moving office furniture; May assist with custodial and other equipment maintenance; Demonstrates proper safety procedures during safety meetings.

Some knowledge of general cleaning methods, materials and equipment; Ability to use upright, backpack, canister, and wet-dry vacuum cleaners; Ability to use carpet shampooer; Ability to use conventional and high speed buffers; Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and courteous relationships among coworkers, general employees and the public; Ability to understand and follow specific oral and/or written instructions and directions; Ability to adhere to all safety and housekeeping standards established by the City and various regulatory agencies.
Education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school; Ability to read and write and understand warning labels and symbols.
Special License and Certificates:
May require valid drivers license.
