The Patient Care Assistant in Surgery is a specifically trained individual, employed by Erlanger Health System, who provides support for surgical nursing personnel in the peri-operative phase of patient care, including area cleaning, equipment support, patient positioning, patient transport, as well as a variety of tasks in support of the surgical patient and perioperative nurse.
The Patient Care Assistant must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the surgical services areas.
High School Graduate or G.E.D.
Experience in a health care setting preferred.
Must be able to work in a Surgical environment and adopt and practice aseptic technique.
Provides assistant to all Surgical Staff.
Must be able to perform the following processes and procedures:
Maintain Safe, Clean Environment
Age Appropriate Care
Preparing Cleaning Agents
Assisting a patient to or from chair/wheelchair/stretcher/bed
Assist with Patient Positioning
BSI (Body Substance Isolation)
Body mechanics for staff/patients
Stocking Supplies, scrub brushes, fluids, linens
Cleans Equipment between cases. O.R. Table, stretcher
Transporting Patients via wheelchair, stretcher, or bed
Transporting Blood and Specimens
Assist with patient Positioning
Making unoccupied bed
Cleaning of OR?s between cases
Beepers, Answering pages in a timely manner
Log Rolling the Patient
