A. Provides basic and technical care to patients as directed by a RN. B. Establishes and maintains therapeutic relationships with individual patients.
C. Documents care given and patient response in patient record. D. In coordination with unit staff, plans, participates and/or leads structured patient activities.
E. Provides a safe and therapeutic milieu for patients by preventing patients from harming themselves or others. F. Communicates significant information and changes inpatient condition to the RN.
G. In coordination with the RN, provides education to patients and their families. H. Maintains Hospital standards by participating in mandatory in-services and mandatory Hospital departmental requirement.
I. Assist the lead tech with orientation/training and acts as role model for new and per diem psychiatric technicians. J. Serves as a role model for consistent demonstration of Sparrow Health System’s Customer Service Behavioral Standards of Performance, by respecting the Privacy and Confidentiality of those we serve.
K. Demonstrates knowledge and respects patient, service provider, organizational confidentiality and HIPAA Security procedures and protocols as defined under the HIPAA Privacy and Security Procedures. L. Follows established HIPAA privacy procedures when using and/or disclosing protected health information.
M. Maintains and protects patients’ rights under the HIPAA Privacy Standards and the Michigan Mental Health Code. 9. Working Conditions : Potential for exposure to blood borne pathogens and other infectious diseases.
Extensive walking, standing, lifting, pulling, pushing associated with patient care. Potential for chemical exposure. Potential for physical injury from severely psychotic/agitated patients. Unpredictable mealtimes, breaks are scheduled around patient needs.
Use of latex products 100% of the time, constantly (76-100%) exposed to latex environment. Exposed to noise, undesirable odors, and verbal abuse. Requires lifting up to 50 pounds. 10.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required: · Associates degree or equivalent in a behavioral health or related field and/or two years experience in the provision of direct patient care in a behavioral health setting with 12 credit hours of post secondary education in a behavioral health or related course of study (e.g., nursing, social work, psychology). · Interpersonal skills to effectively and appropriately communicate with patients, families, physicians and other within thirty days of hire or prior to completion of orientation.
Maintain BLS/CPI certification throughout employment. · Hospital Associates. · BLS certification within three months of hire and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification
