Duties & Responsibilities: The Instructional Designer assists faculty with the creation and/or use of digital resources, including software, hardware, multimedia, and collaboration tools, to support the educational goals of Atlanta Technical College. The Instructional Designer reports to the Director of Distance Education and Instructional Technologies. Assist faculty in the design, development, and routine support of effective web-based, hybrid, and online courses, including web content, interactive exercises, assessments, and online communication. Participate on a team that plans, prepares, and presents workshops on software applications, instructional design, course management systems, and other technology topics by developing support materials and documentation to assist faculty in using instructional technologies. Assist faculty with support in the use of the existing college learning management system, ANGEL. Provide consultation on the design, development, implementation, and assessment of learner-centered courses in the face-to-face, hybrid, and online learning environments. Collaborate with faculty to create high quality instructional materials, including graphics, 3D technology, and audio/video. Explore and support the use of instructional design theory, instructional technology, technology tools, and media to enhance learning and interaction. Assist in the implementation of emerging instructional technologies. Keep abreast of emerging multimedia, instructional technologies, and accessibility requirements. Maintain qualifications for employment as required by the state and college. Adhere to the rules and regulations stated in the Technical College System of Georgia Policy Manual and to the policies and procedures of the college. Participate in division and college-wide meetings as appropriate. Participate in the college's staff development program. Perform other duties as assigned. Agency Specific Qualifications and/or Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Educational or Instructional Technology, Instructional Systems Design, or closely related field. Comprehensive knowledge of and experience with instructional design principles and instructional delivery methods. Intermediate to advanced skills in web and educational based technologies such as Microsoft Office 2010, Camtasia, and HTML 5. Experience with learning management systems, especially ANGEL. Working knowledge of media delivery formats including streaming video, animations, and other Web 2.0 technologies. Awareness of usability and accessibility considerations in instructional design. Strong interpersonal and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
QUALIFICATIONS: Doctoral degree in Instructional Technology, Educational Technology, Curriculum Development, or the equivalent. Experience working in instructional technology at the college level or equivalent. Experience designing and producing course and program websites, web graphics, web resources and other digital course materials. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse constituencies.
