Cargill Deicing Technology (CDT) is the North American market leader in the production and distribution of winter snow fighting products and services. Position Overview:
To provide technical assistance support to the underground and surface operations as well as leading, directing and coordinating other mine/staff engineers and engineering technicians in their given operational responsibilities.

Departmental administration and supervision - supervise and manage facility engineering department to include: leading departmental planning meeting, making / over-viewing work assignments, performance evaluations, salary recommendations, department budgeting, etc.

Assist operations management in constructing annual / 3 year / 5 year / 20 year mining plans, ventilation plans, mine design evaluation study, capital planning, etc., evaluate long-term strategies, comply with mining statutes, etc.

Perform engineering project work - to support production /maintenance operations; i.e. DEC environmental impact, study mining cycle, ground support alternatives, etc.

Equipment selection and commitments - support operations personnel in selection, comparing operating performance data, justifying purchase/project, commitment preparation and support, etc., for equipment replacements, new processes, etc.

Operational problem solving - assist in areas typically involving mine ventilation, blasting, hoisting system, materials handling and processing, structural problems, etc, to maintain or improve operating efficiencies.

Ground control - bolting patterns, rock mechanics instrumentation / data analysis, roof repair, etc. providing technical knowledge, personnel resources and time that may not be available elsewhere in the organization to maintain / improve operating efficiencies.

Mine surveying - panel alignment, beltline installations, rock mechanics data, mine mapping, etc., to support mining advancement, keep mining within established reserves, monitor mine reserves, monitor performance of the mine design, etc.

Hoist / Skip / Rope Engineering - provide technical support to operations personnel as required to analyze component wear / life, troubleshooting operational / performance problems, rope changes, J tail cuts, non-destructive testing, etc.

Quality control - sampling and analysis of salt, water discharge qualities, certifying stockpiles, etc. to maintain compliance to contractual specifications, state / federal environmental statutes, etc.


B.S. in engineering, mining, or science

2+ years supervisory or team leader experience

Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills

Experienced with Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCad

5+ years underground mining experience

Experience in rock mechanics, mine design, hoisting systems, mine ventilation and field instrumentation.

Experience with reliability excellence concepts, Kaizen events, 5S and lean Six Sigma.
