The Office of the Public Defender, Pitt County, is seeking a qualified
attorney to represent indigent persons charged with Abuse Neglect
Dependency offenses. Caseload may include felony, misdemeanor, and
juvenile cases.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The qualified candidate must have experience with Abuse Neglect
Dependency offenses. Knowledge of: Federal, State, common and
constitutional law; judicial procedures and rules of evidence; case,
statutory, regulatory and common law; NC General statutes to prosecute
criminal cases; the judicial and quasi-judicial procedures; and legal
research methods. Ability to: analyze facts, laws, rules, regulations,
interpretations, and related written documents and apply applicable
law to those facts; conduct legal research, plan, develop and execute
and effective litigation strategy to achieve desired results; prepare,
organize and conduct witness examinations; deliver opening statements,
and express complex legal concepts and related facts in a clear and
concise manner.

Training and Experience Requirements
Position requires a license to practice law in the State of North
Carolina. Must have sufficient experience and skills necessary to
represent clients charged with Abuse Neglect Dependency offenses.
Candidates with prior jury trial experience are encouraged to apply.
Degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.
