To provide for the safe, secure, and legal custody of the jail inmates and provide assistance and services to inmates and the public. To perform all functions associated with the office of the Sheriff.
Maintains a safe secure detention facility to protect the inmates, public and staff.
Provides inmate services to enhance their general well being and to insure their rights and privileges.
Performs booking and bonding procedures Supervises inmates when receiving medical services and during recreational and work release activities. Provides conflict resolution services including observing and counseling suicide risks, de-escalation of verbal and physical confrontations, and breaking up fights. Other Functions: Transports inmates including court escorts and in-state and out-of-state transports. Assists patrol deputies as needed. Other duties as required. Impact: Significant Outside Contacts: General public, members of other law enforcement agencies, all Pitkin County departments, Pitkin County combined courts and legal professionals, inmates, vendors, and Aspen Valley Hospital including doctors and other medical professionals.
Supervisory Duties: Inmates supervision only.
Job Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Job Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to solve problems, to communicate verbally and in writing, maturity, fair mindedness, good judgment, honest, patience, integrity, initiative, and have an ability to learn. Education or Formal Training: High school or equivalent. A college education preferred. Must be U.S citizen, have a Driver’s License with excellent driving history, and be 21 years old. Experience: None, however, life experience and time in community preferred. Material and Equipment Directly Used: General office equipment, soft and hard restraints, and vehicles.
