Primary Duties and Responsibilities:|
Directly responsible for both identifying and providing timely, accurate, relevant, and actionable information to VP of Finance and Budget and Financial Analysis Manager as directed regarding all aspects of the company’s financial performance and reporting. Through detailed analysis and investigation, the Senior Analyst will have a comprehensive understanding of general ledger account balances and impacting transactions, month-end close, general healthcare operations and SQL server.
Leads the Medical Group Operations budget & forecasting processes. Is the primary liaison with department managers, as well as with the three Directors of Operations and H.R. Recruiting as to FTE accounting and projections.
The Senior Analyst will provide supervision and oversight to lower-level financial analysts and accountants, and will serve as back-up to the Manager in his absence. Takes the initiative, works independently with minimal supervision, often under critical deadlines.
The Senior analyst provides the treasury functions for TSPMG, i.e. those not outsourced to Health Plan.
Responsibilities include : the facilitation of tasks to understand the objectives of the business owner, retrieval of data, organization of data into information, interpretation of data and its meaning, aggregation of large amounts of data, facilitation of business owners and leaders throughout the Region to understand the data and results and making recommendations as appropriate.
Ensure medical claim expenses track to the appropriate general ledger accounts through analysis and audit.
Automate activities and implement process improvements.
This position will serve as a knowledge resource for other analysts, providing training and mentoring as necessary to non-lead analysts.
Ad hoc financial and analytical requests will be common.
Automate finance activities and implement process improvements
The Senior Analyst will serve, with limited supervision, to identify areas in need of operational attention for cost structure improvements and to meet budgetary expectations. This individual will also provide expertise in the areas of cost, provider data, provider contracting and reimbursement. This person works regularly under critical deadlines.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
4 Years bachelor’s degree with emphasis in business, finance, accounting, or economics from an accredited program OR other bachelor’s degree with equivalent professional experience in finance or accounting
Ability to understand and modify database reporting systems. Proficiency in SQL server or similar database application is required including ability to create, modify and understand programming language utilized by the labor reporting system.
Possesses and understanding of budgeting and forecasting techniques
Strong problem solving with the ability to conduct & interpret quantitative/qualitative analysis
Possesses technical expertise in systems analysis and database management
Effective communication, consulting, interpersonal, & presentation skills
Minimum of 5+ years experience in accounting, financial analysis.
Proficient with spreadsheet applications Paradox, Excel, Word, Lotus, Access or other database system
Main frame computer knowledge and report writing a plus, such as, Crystal or DDView Report Writer.
Experience in preparing, interfacing, and analyzing financial statements, utilization reports and cost-benefit analysis. Must understand the general financial and operational issues related to IBNR in managed care.
Familiarity with medical terminology and health plan issues and management practices. Understanding of health care norms in the community.
Project management experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
B.S. with Finance Major
A Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business is highly preferred
Five (5) to Seven (7) years or more of related analytical &/or consulting experience required.
Experience in a multi-faceted health care system.
Prior experience with HMO’s, hospitals, and/or large physician practices considered a plus.
Ability to identify issues & propose methodological solutions
Synthesizes analyses well, highlights implications of findings
Expert w/ PC applications including spreadsheet, word processing, & graphics packages
A managed care environment preferable.
