Advertised Summary Job Description

Reporting to the Manager, Disability, the Sr Benefits Specialist is responsible for customer service relative to the administration of the University's disability and related leave of absence programs. Advises and assists departmental managers on all aspects of employee leaves. Ensures compliance with state, federal and Plan requirements. The Senior Benefits Specialist, Disability, responds to participant phone inquiries, and coordinates with internal and external partners to ensure world-class customer service. Serves as subject matter expert to an insourced customer service team providing technical expertise in all areas of benefit service delivery including Federal/State compliance, vendor management, and member advocacy.

Resolves escalated employee benefit issues with external vendors; provides detailed written responses to participants.
Independently manages all aspects employee leaves including: disability, long term disability, FMLA, Workers' Compensation, fitness for duty, return to work, employee safety and accommodation requests.

Provides support to management, partnering with internal and external resources on specific tasks for disability benefit programs. Interprets policies and and laws for managers. Provides guidance and oversight regarding customer service delivery standards.

Builds positive relations with vendors and University personnel and monitors vendor performance through standard metrics to ensure service levels are consistent with contractual agreements and statements of work.

Identifies opportunities to streamline and simplify benefit administration to enhance the individual experience while improving overall cost effectiveness to the University. Performs other duties as requested.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in experience required, Minimum of three years' related experience.

Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

Prior experience with disability plans necessary. Superior written and oral communication skills with attention to detail. Excellent analytical and organizational skills and ability to manage competing project deliverables and deadlines. Experience with world-class service delivery model with focus on individual experience. Knowledge of HR information systems and benefit administration, systems and external vendor interfaces. Fully knowledgeable in all areas of compliance including plan/claim fiduciary roles, HIPAA, ERISA, Cafeteria plan rules, etc. Experience with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's preferred. Experience with PeopleSoft preferred.
