This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and determining adherence to accounting, financial reporting and auditing requirements for independent charter schools authorized by the Universities of Wisconsin Milwaukee and Parkside and the City of Milwaukee and private schools participating in the three voucher programs: the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program (MPCP); Racine Parental Choice Program (RPCP); and Wisconsin Parental Choice Program (WPCP). This position has the primary responsibility for the independent examination of the independent charter schools and voucher schools financial and membership audits. This individual also provides advanced and highly technical consultation and direction to practicing certified public accountants, department staff, local educational agencies (LEAs), independent charter schools, private schools and other recipients of grant and aids programs. This position independently makes high level decisions affecting state policies concerning prescribed accounting, auditing and financial reporting.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles for government; generally accepted auditing standards and government auditing standards; “single audit” regulations and requirements; techniques used for large and small group professional presentations; techniques used in analyzing complex reports, financial statements and other materials to determine pertinent fiscal practices and alternatives; laws and regulations pertaining to governmental units, particularly private and public schools; private and public school accounting and auditing requirements; and computer spreadsheet, word processing and presentation applications, electronic data collection and processing concepts.

Starting salary will be between $26.021 and $40.000 per hour (approximately $54,331 and $83,520 per year). A Certified Public Accountant add-on up to $.50 per hour may be given. This position is in pay schedule 07, range 02. A six month probationary period is required.
