Milton Hershey is seeking an Auto Tech Instructor to start at the beginning of the 2013-14 school year. The Auto Tech Instructor prepares high school students in grades 9 through 12 for successful completion of Auto Tech certification and subsequent careers in the field. This includes both classroom instruction and working with the students in hands-on experiential education at the School's auto tech ed facility.

Responsibilities include the planning, implementing and assessing of the curriculum, which must be innovative, current and industry-validated to prepare students for success in the automotive industry. In addition, this instructor is responsible for the creation of additional curricula related to advanced courses and experiences such as, but not limited to, work-based learning, internships and cooperative educational experiences.

In addition to developing competence in course expectations, the instructors must lead students to become certified at a 90% or higher rate.

The instructor is charged with organization and facilitation of a craft-advisory committee that meets at least two times per year. MHS teachers are also required to schedule and complete one additional duty annually in addition to their respective teaching schedules.


Minimum of 5 years work experience in Auto Tech.

Professional Certificate in Automotive Mechanics/Technology, Vocational Instructor I from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (Pennsylvania Department of Education) is required.

Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification as Master Automotive Technician in the following areas: Suspension and Steering, Brakes, Electrical/Electronic Systems and Engine Performance is required.

Automotive Instructor Vocational II Certificate from the Pennsylvania Department of Education is a plus.

Teaching experience working in a Career Pathways system using integrated instructional approaches preferred.

Bachelor’s degree in an automotive-related field or education.

Fluency in Spanish a plus.
