Under general supervision of the Assistant Dean, Academic Services, the Business Advisor will provide academic advising and support to undergraduate students in the Mihaylo College of Business and Economics. Advises prospective, newly admitted and continuing undergraduate students on their major degree requirements, course selections, evaluation of transcripts and general university policy and procedures. Advises students on academic probation, helps develop Mihaylo College retention programs, and will assist in graduation checks. Provide advisement to students with special needs and in programs such as Business Honors, Finish in Four, and Freshmen Programs. Coordinates and participates in outreach activities as assigned. Manages assigned population of students and coordinates activities/intervention based on needs. Works with existing programs to encourage cross campus collaboration of resources as well as finding innovative means to help facilitate retention and graduation. Other duties as assigned. Essential Qualifications Equivalent to graduation from an accredited institution in a four year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public, or business administration or a job related field. Equivalent to one year of professional student services work experience. At least one year of intervention programming development and experience. Previous academic advising experience for undergraduate students. A master's degree from an accredited institution in a four year college or university in a job related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. Working knowledge of the practice, procedures, and activities of the undergraduate advising office; general knowledge of the methods and problems associated with program management; ability to interpret and apply program rules; ability to use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and implementing program improvements; ability to advise students individually and in groups; ability to work in a diverse workplace; ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, faculty, administrators, and students,; ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of the overall operation. Assignments will require the application of both knowledge and judgment using the principles, techniques, standards, guides and professional skills characteristic of a particular student activity. Program planning, interviewing, and counseling, recommending solutions, and acting as a spokesperson within the area of undergraduate advising is required. License/ Certification Valid driver's license and independent means of transportation Special Working Conditions Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a fingerprint background check.
