Position Summary:
Positions are for Academic Year 2012-2013. Under the general supervision of the Resident Education Operations Manager and the Student Supervisor, this student 1. Is responsible for providing a sense of engaged safety security presence in the residence halls and related areas, including patrolling frequently, securing buildings, identifying intruders / suspicious individuals, reporting incidents needing attention to Residence Hall Advisor Staff and University Police, checking emergency call box system, driving utility vehicle to patrol parking lots, providing engaged presence in parking lot guard booth, appropriately using PD radios, etc. 2. Completes shift reports and documents all incidents. 3. Is expected to wear designated uniform and have staff badge visible while working. 4. Communicates with supervisor and other staff regarding security operations through the notebook kept at the desk. Reads all entries at start of shift and follows directives. Documents shift events, actions, pending tasks, messages, etc. Relays information from University Police to appropriate Res Life Staff. 5. Responds to resident emergencies including being able to quickly contact emergency services, coordinate police response and access, etc. 6. Works at least one partial graveyard shift per week. 7. Works well as part of a team and provides great customer service. 8. Performs additional tasks as required by the department of Residence Life and Student Housing. 9. Attends all scheduled staff meetings and training seminars, and will be paid for attending meetings and seminars. 10. Returns early and stays late in the semester, works half of each university vacation period and approximately every other weekend. 11. May not work over 30 hours in a week when classes are in session or 40 hours a week when classes are not in session. 12. Will work on an emergency basis when available. WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT Work is performed in assorted environments and may involve moderate exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke and/or loud noises. Moderate physical activity and ability. Requires handling of average weight objects up to 10 pounds, standing and/or walking for more than four hours per day, climbing multiple sets of stairs, and quickly responding to emergency situations. Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risk, which require following basic safety precautions. Must be a student at UNM and eligible for student employment. Must have and maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA or better.
