The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) Information Technology team is accepting applications for a Systems Support Specialist IV to provide systems analysis, network, and desktop support to the faculty, staff, and students to one or more departments or programs in the college. This person will be part of one of three Information Technology Support teams.
This position will provide the primary systems support for the teaching, research, service, and administrative functions for one and possibly two departments, and secondary support for one or two additional departments. As a member of the one of the LAS IT Groups, the person in this position will maintain and enhance systems and facilities, which include servers, desktop and laptop computers, copy machines and printers, and A/V devices for one or more primary departments, as well as provide backup support for these functions for the remainder of the group. Responsibilities include installing hardware and software, maintaining and securing Linux, Mac OSX, and Windows (XP/Vista/7.0/Server) systems in a networked environment, software licensing, developing as-needed programs and tools, web page maintenance, and assisting faculty, students and staff with finding solutions to technical challenges. The person in this position will help the college stay current with university and college IT practices.
The successful candidate must have good interpersonal skills and be able to communicate with faculty, staff and students. As a member of a team, the successful candidate will analyze system and software refinements, develop system and software tools and solutions, and administer departmental and college high-tech facilities, which include servers, desktop/laptop computers, thin clients, various virtual devices, printers and A/V devices.
Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, mathematics, statistics, management information systems, or closely related field and three years of experience that includes systems analysis, administration and support; OR Master's degree in similar areas with one year of closely related experience.
Experience with the setup, operation and maintenance of Windows and different Linux/UNIX variants (RHEL, Fedora, Ubuntu, Mac OS) on laptops, desktops, and servers. Experience with the setup of Active Directory, DNS, NFS, sendmail, samba, Apache, and other open domain software.
Experience with TCP/IP protocols and applications such as SMTP, DHCP, IMAP, POP, firewall.
Experience providing desktop support to end users.
Experience in setting up and managing student and research computer labs.
Experience with thin-client client/server networks.
Experience that demonstrates programming skills in C, Shell, HTML, PHP, Perl or Python.
Experience with Microsoft Access and Office applications in general.
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite packages
Experience with computer networks and security.
Minimum $39,474; commensurate with qualifications
