The Douglas County Public Works Operations department has an opening for a Temporary Equipment Operator specializing in Concrete Finishing . This is work responsible for operating and maintaining County vehicles and performing manual labor activities.
The length of this temporary assignment is unknown at this time. As a temporary psoition, no benefits are available.
Please Note: At this time, Douglas County has two Temporary Equipment Operator positions open performing somewhat different duties.

Examples of Duties:
(The following examples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.)
Operates equipment including pickups, single axle and tandem axle trucks, all types of tractor-trailers, rollers, water tankers, mowers, sweepers, loaders, backhoes, snowplows, sanders, motor graders, dozers, scrapers, paving equipment, volumetric mixer, slip-form paving machine, and other construction and maintenance equipment.
Performs a variety of road maintenance tasks involving the operation of the equipment stated above and manual labor tasks, including placement of concrete, culvert cleaning, and placement of asphalt.
Responds to emergency situations including, but not limited to: fires, flooding, and natural disasters.
Performs snow removal and application of anti-icing and de-icing products. Assists with placement of traffic control signage and provides traffic flagging during construction activities.
Performs manual labor tasks, including, but not limited to: shoveling, raking, fence construction, and tree trimming.
Performs operator maintenance on assigned equipment and vehicles.
Performs daily inspection on equipment and vehicles used.
Performs miscellaneous minor maintenance work on vehicles and equipment.
Collects debris along County roads.
Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Generally a high school diploma or GED supplemented by one year education or experience in highway maintenance or equipment operation or any equivalent combination. Familiarity with concrete set up and finish work.
ACADEMIC SKILLS: Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, safety rules and manuals, short correspondence, and memos and the ability to perform basic math.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions and deviate from those instructions if the conditions warrant.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must possess valid State of Colorado Class “A“ commercial driver’s license (and additional CDL endorsements; e.g. hazmat, tankers as required).
Applicants for this position must meet the Department of Transportation physical exam and drug and alcohol testing requirements.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Knowledge of road construction and maintenance tools and equipment. Knowledge of safety factors. Work outside normal work hours is required.
CONSEQUENCE OF ERROR: Work involves equipment operation and physical labor. Consequence of error may result in unsafe roadways and unsafe working conditions for co-workers and the traveling public.
CONTACTS: This position has daily contact with co-workers and the public.
INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT: Work is often performed independently and requires self-initiative and good judgment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to perform continuous strenuous physical labor for up to 10 hours a day. (may exceed 12 hours during times of snow removal or construction or emergency situations.) Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is generally performed outdoors and is subject to adverse weather conditions.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position does not directly supervise other employees.
