This is a job that is only for crazy good Linux sys admin and security types, preferably located in the US. We have a mission critical web/VoIP application, a demo of which you can see here: /QOIs98Crddg?hd=1. We have an outstanding sys admin, but he will be cutting back on hours to spend more time with his family. This application will be moved to a pair of dedicated machines in Denver, Colorado and placed in a telephony data center.

The general technology stack will be: Hardware: 2X Dell 2950s, plenty of RAM, more processor than we need, 6 drives running RAID 10, dual power, DRAC out of band management OS: Slackware 14 Database: PostgreSQL PHP Framework: Symfony 2.0 w/Doctrine ORM Telephony: Asterisk 10 Monitoring: Currently done with Zabbix Each of the physical machines will be running a virtualization environment and a few different VMs will be running (production server, beta server, office PBX, another application we sell). Physical machine 2 will be designed to be a hot standby with near realtime failover for physical machine 1. We need someone who can get a firm understanding of this system (with the help of our existing sys admin), lock these machines down like Ft. Knox, perform regular system checks, ensure that all of our backups are 100% solid, provide a very reliable failover plan, provide a vulnerability analysis, and most importantly, be able to pick up the phone and help us to immediately resolve catastrophic issues when they happen.

This position obviously requires that you have a lifestyle compatible with these sorts of responsibilities. We have a preference for US based individuals, though this is critical enough that we may even consider keeping two people on retainer (in wholly different time zones) in case we're really in trouble. I'm not quite sure how to price this, but this will very likely be a job where there would be a moderate amount of upfront work, followed by sporadic work when emergencies arise. Due to this, we would envision paying someone a retainer so that we can buy their time and know they will be there if we need them.

It could also be a smaller retainer, plus an hourly amount if we need to invoke you. ------------------------------------------ Added 29 SEP 2012, 1:01 AM EDT Note that US is a preference, not a requirement. So long as we can communicate well, and you can pick up the phone and respond to emergencies, that's what is important. Desired Skills: PostgresSQL Linux VOIP Security Engineer FireWall
