14+ years of recent P.A. experience required.
Under general supervision, works with clinical staff/physician to provide primary healthcare to patients. Examines and diagnoses patients and develops treatment plans. As appropriate for clinical setting provides treatment for illnesses, injury, emergencies, prenatal care, follow up, and screening and testing. Performs testing, referral to physicians as needed, writes prescriptions, and performs procedures within the scope of expertise, protocols and available equipment. May perform administrative support functions as required.
Education: Graduation from an accredited educational program for Physician Assistants and successful completion of certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant. Experience: One year related clinical experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of medical principals, procedures, and community resources. Skill in eliciting history from patients, performing physical exams and formulating assessments of and treatment plans for patients. Ordering appropriate diagnostic studies to aid in diagnosis. Knowledge of appropriate administration and prescription of medications. Skill in utilizing the principles and practices of effective and persuasive communication to elicit information, negotiate problem resolution, and/or garner support for various programs or policies. Skill in obtaining information from patients, calming and reassuring patients and motivating patients to accept treatments. Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in selecting proper treatment. Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations. Ability to prepare accurate reports. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public. Certifications and Licenses: Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers certification/CPR. Licensed by the State of Colorado as a Physician Assistant; must register supervising physician upon assignment with the Colorado Board of Medical Examiner's. Depending on the needs of the assigned area incumbents in this job title may be required to obtain additional certifications or training in one or more specialty areas. All Certifications and Licenses required for this job must be kept current as a condition of continued employment.
