This job is responsible for performing customer service activities in support of the Laboratory department. The work includes responding to telephone inquiries for lab testing information and results as well as troubleshooting related issues. An incumbent also collects and distributes patient demographic information using multi-computer systems.
Provides support to respond to all telephone inquiries from lab customers to include test results, report distribution, faxed reporting, remote inquiries via LABTALK system, specimen collection requirements, and verbal orders.
Troubleshoots issues via telephone or electronic means to include categories such as billing issues, tests in question, provider authorizations and customer issues.
Edits and corrects daily patient/client billing reports so that accurate and timely information is used for billing.
Enters information in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) relative to testing performed at reference laboratories; calls for clarification if there is a question; accurately selects appropriate codes to ensure that results reported match those of the reference lab.
Registers patients in both the hospital information system as well as the LIS; collects demographic information and selects appropriate accounts/codes in accordance with applicable protocols/guidelines.
Enters accurately, based on written and/or verbal physician’s orders, laboratory orders into the LIS following lab compliance policies.
Assists in the maintenance of the section to include record keeping, filing, system series discharging, supply inventory, updating procedure manuals, etc.
High School degree or equivalent.
One year of admission data entry work experience within the last five years, or any combination of experience and education that would demonstrate the capability to perform the work.
