Position Summary
The Adult Degree program (ADCaP) at the University of the Incarnate Word is seeking an Academic Counselor. The Academic Counselor directly supports the learning center's Director of Operations in all aspects of program operations and responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the Academic Counselor are:
Academic advising of students which includes, but may not be limited to, assessing college transcripts for transferable hours
assist in selection of academic major
write, review, and update official degree plans
register students for courses
Career planning
Follows-up on and actively recruit leads for prospective students that are identified through central system of advertising and marketing.
In the absence of a secretary/receptionist or other data entry person assigned to the learning center, make appropriate entries in the Banner Student System.
Responsible for continuous advising of all assigned students to insure they are kept current on changes in curriculum, course offerings, policies and processes.
Tracks students to successful degree completion and graduation and completes official degree audit.
Has responsibility to offer advice and counsel to situations and challenges that occur with students, faculty, and staff. The Academic Counselor will also assist the Director of Operations in the following:
Management of the learning center, marketing, alumni relations, student account collections, financial aid counseling, purchasing, information technology operations, coordinating faculty needs, scheduling course offerings, and assisting faculty and students with immediate needs.
Analyze course offering that provide students the opportunity to complete all academic degree plan requirements.
Assist in providing the courses offerings schedule to all students at least one term in advance.
Assists the Director in all coordination with primary facility owners, for the availability of classrooms, and the readiness of those classrooms for scheduled course offerings.
Seek to resolve stakeholder concerns and problems with courses or University operations and procedures as they occur. Required Education
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a related area and two (2) years of related management experience (preferably in higher education).
Required Experience
One year equivalent work experience. One year advising or counseling, preferably in an academic setting. Experience working with various software applications. Requires administrative experience and skills.

Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
Proficiency with a personal computer as well as the Microsoft Windows operating system and Office software
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree. Three years experience.
Additional education may be substituted for years of experience.
Publicity, public relations, and marketing experience are preferable.
Skills in business organization are preferable.
