Position works with UNL faculty, administrators and staff and extramural partners to develop competitive external grant proposals. Position works closely with grant applicants at all stages of the proposal development process, from funding opportunity identification to ensuring the proposal narrative meets program requirements to final submission. Position improves the content, clarity, organization and visual appeal of written documents; writes non-scientific proposal sections; and edits completed proposals. Position supports collaboration among colleagues, administrators and faculty leaders during the development of multi-million dollar, interdisciplinary and multi-institutional proposals. Position participates in meetings of the proposal writing and development teams, develops proposal writing timelines and ensures deadlines are met and collaborates with Office of Sponsored Programs personnel to help ensure compliance with sponsor requirements and to expedite proposal submission. Occasional travel required.
Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English or Communications required. Excellent communication, writing, editing and project management skills necessary. Must have exceptional organizational skills and the ability to quickly become familiar with subject matter in a wide variety of scientific and scholarly disciplines. Ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment essential. Must be detail oriented. Familiarity with word processing programs necessary. Ability to understand complex scientific and academic concepts essential. Must have creative strategy and planning skills; effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to effectively interact with various facets of the university community required.
One year of proposal development or professional writing experience in the public or private sector preferred.
